About The Utah Statewide Water Conservation Team

In August 2001, the Governor called together major water wholesalers to work towards a 25 percent reduction in per capita water use for the state of Utah. The Governor pointed out that as the second-driest state, Utah should be a model for water conservation. The team chose to build on JVWCD’s Slow the Flow campaign.

Plants Don't Waste Water
	Group plants with similar water needs together. Don’t water your lawn everyday. Water deeper and less often to promote a healthy root system. Turn off your sprinklers when it’s rainy or windy.
Mother Nature
	Use a broom instead of a hose Install a separate drip irrigation system for trees, shrubs and flowers Place a shut-off nozzle on the end of your hose Cover bare soil with a thick layer of mulch

	Don't water during the heat of the day Adjust your sprinklers to avoid watering sidewalks and driveways Raise your mower blade one notch. It promotes a healthy root system Adjust your watering schedule to the season

Governor Video Tips

Tip #1 - Since 60 percent of water is used outdoors, Governor Gary Herbert offers suggestions on methods to save such a precious resource as we transition from spring to summer. Tip #2 - With Utah's weather heating up, it is important to use only as much water as your lawn needs. Here are a few tips you can use to save this precious resource. Tip #3 - July and August are the hottest months of the year. In addition to not watering during the hottest part of the day, here are some additional tips that will help you conserve water. Tip #4 - Sprinkler systems have been working hard all summer, so now is the time to examine them for any maintenance needs. Governor Gary Herbert also reminds Utahns about the importance of teaching our children about water conservation. Tip #5 - With fall in the air, Governor Gary Herbert reminds each of us to be a conscientious water user and provides a few fall-specific tips to water conservation. Tip #6 - Governor Gary Herbert would like to thank everyone who conserved water this year. He would also like to remind Utahns to begin winterizing their lawns and irrigation systems before the winter weather truly hits.
